Girl Code.

These two funny ladies, Nicole Byer and Alice Wetterlund of MTV’s Girl Code, graced my college’s campus last night to liven up what’d been a dreary week so far. They were our university’s spring campus comedians and they killed it. Nicole Byer is hands down one of the funniest people alive. She can be so real and relatable but in the funniest way possible and had everyone clapping, cheering, and crying laughing. Alice was more of the stands-in-the-corner-dancing-by-herself type of funny which was actually more awkward, but she was ok (sort of reminded me of a less funny Kristen Wiig). But if you ever get the chance to see any of the girls on this show perform live, take it! You won’t regret it.

People don’t want to hear about your diet. Just shut up, eat your lettuce, and be sad.
– Nicole Byer

I think crushes are great, you know they make the world go ’round because otherwise you know, Taylor Swift would like, not have a career.
– Alice Wetterlund

Nobody’s perfect. {whispers} Except for Beyonce.
– Nicole Byer

Men love to pretend that they love the ‘natural look’. And then you question them, you’re like, “What do you mean ‘natural’? And they’re like, ‘You know, like Kim Kardashian.’ They literally don’t think she’s wearing any makeup. They have no fucking clue.
– Alice Wetterlund

I am the worst dancer in the room. I’m a terrible black person. I have no rhythm, I cannot ding, and I cannot dance. But I do all three!
– Nicole Byer

My friends have a name for my dancing its called “What are you doing, are you okay?”
Alice Wetterlund

Guys are always like, “Nicole, you’re so funny. You’re such a good friend.” No. I don’t want to be a friend. I want to suck your dick.”
– Nicole Byer

When people try to use “slut” as an insult it’s like, what’s next? What else you got? ‘Cause that’s great. Oh, so I have sex a lot? Okay. Oh no! Don’t say anything else. What, do I dress well?

GIRLS "Beach House"

The season 3 finale of GIRLS was tonight. It was awkward and messy and a reflection of this past season. Let’s just say that I won’t be aching for season 4 to come on anytime soon. When I first started watching this show, I was surprised by how much I liked it. I hadn’t been a fan of Lena Dunham’s Tiny Furniture movie, and was actually shocked to feel so much connection to the characters once I started getting into the show. But as seasons 1 and 2 went by, all I started to notice were the constantly repeated story lines and uncharged emotions behind them. Hannah complains about something, Marnie tries to fix it, Jessa flakes on them, then Hannah and Marnie fight. Over and over and over. The only person I care about it Shoshanna. She should have her own show, she’s so quirky and hilarious. The ONLY episode of season 3 I truly enjoyed was “Beach House” and only because the girls actually seemed to show real emotions. Even then though Marnie and Hannah were fighting and everyone was incredibly self involved (not a surprise this season). They seem to only be friends out of necessity because nobody else would want to hang out with such antagonistic and self centered people.

Highlight of the Season: In “Beach House” when Shoshanna stood up to Hannah and called her a complete narcissist. It was fantastic. A close second was the (un)synchronized dance they do in the same episode but it was still not as good as Marnie and Hannah dancing to Robyn in season 1. So it’s clear this show will never get back to its relatable, stomach aching hilarity that it started with in season 1 which makes me sad. I guess it’s time to venture out and find a new show that might replace my love affair with people whose lives are just as messy, awkward, and roller coaster-y as mine are. I have been wanting to start Broad City

The Head and The Heart

I have a new love in Seattle’s indie folk rock band, The Head and the Heart.

I’d listened to them a few times before at the insistence of my sister, Carleigh, and thought they were pretty good, along the lines of Mumford & Sons (LOVE) and The Lumineers (also love). Then with an incredibly restless soul after a mind numbing spring break of not doing anything, I drove to DC to see them in concert with my sis. They. Killed. It.

We snuck into the DC Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon concert and just walked right up to the stage. There were only about 200 people watching them and we were able to stand pretty close the stage which was awesome. Even though most people left after their races, the ones that stuck around were dancing and bobbing their heads like crazy. We rolled up just as they were playing their new release ‘Shake’ and stayed until they finished out their set.

They go from soft and slow to a heart pounding beat that makes you makes you want to stop bobbing your head and actually dance. Their music is infectious and it’s so easy to get lost and start singing along even if you don’t know the words (I didn’t until I went home the next day and memorized every single song). The band members themselves were awesome too! Josiah Johnson, one of the guitarists, was drinking a beer and apologized stating that, “it’s tradition, but it’s weird since it’s before noon.” And their drummer, Tyler Williams, gets so into their songs he can’t even sit down while playing. The only girl in the group, Charity Rose Thielen, was able to keep up with the boys joking around about her bad jokes, which she kept making, and musically just rocked the stage with her unbelievable violin skills and stunning voice.

They released the music video below, ‘Another Story’ about a month ago and it has one of the stars of Pretty Little Liars in it, Troian Bellisario!

Also definitely check out ‘Sounds Like Hallelujah’, it’s my favorite! And also ‘Rivers and Roads‘. And let’s not forget ‘Shake‘.

Just listen to it all!

Seriously though can I get a broomstick or flying car cause I’m going to be running all over the UK.

Since I didn’t go anywhere for Spring Break (and I’m avoiding all my friends’ Florida beach snapchats and instagrams) I decided to not be productive at all and reread the Harry Potter series yet again. 27th times the charm right? Just kidding. Every time I reread this series I notice new things, learn new connections and it makes me fall in love with it all even more.

Love in La La Land

My Adam Brody/Leighton Meester & Ashton Kutcher/Mila Kunis posts got me thinking about how many other couples have met in Hollywood. It’s like a for the famous. Sometimes it doesn’t always work out (Rachel McAdams & Ryan Gosling. So depressing. Why did I even bring that up?) but sometimes it does and it’s so exciting! I love love. And since we’ll be seeing quite a few of these couples on the red carpet come Sunday (Oscar weekend!), here is an unqualified but totally legitimate list of the best Hollywood couples:

17. Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds: most gorgeous future children award!

16. Channing Tatum & Jenna Dewan-Tatum: steppin’ up their marriage.

15. Ashton Kutcher & Mila Kunis: together since the 70’s (sort of).

14. Emma Roberts & Evan Peters: an American Happy Story.

13. Neil Patrick Harris & David Burtka: they have the absolute cutest family.

12. David & Victoria Beckham: so they didn’t exactly meet in Hollywood, but does anyone really care? they’re amazing. and he makes her smile. she actually has teeth!

11. Aaron Paul & Lauren Parsekian: they’re so in love it’s precious. yeah bitch.

10. Leighton Meester & Adam Brody: couldn’t be any cuter even if they actually were Blair Waldorf and Seth Cohen.

9. Leslie Mann & Judd Apatow: Hollywood’s funniest couple, hands down.

8. Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake: (God must have spent) a little more time on them.

7. Beyonce & Jay-Z: Queen Bey and King J, need I say more.

6. Carey Mulligan & Marcus Mumford: LOVE the story of how they met and reconnected.

5. Ellen & Portia: even amidst hilariously fake “divorce” rumors, Ellen says that she falls more in love with Portia everyday.

4. Andrew Garfield & Emma Stone: they literally always look so happy to be together… I couldn’t choose on a lovey photo of them so you get this:

3. Olivia Wilde & Jason Sudeikis: divorced a prince, got engaged to the prince of SNL.

2. John Krasinski & Emily Blunt: funny and beautiful, beautiful and funny.
“And then I met her and I was so nervous and I was like, ‘Oh god, I’m going to fall in love with her.’ -John Krasinski.

1. Ben Affleck & Jennifer Garner: absolute perfection.
“You know how as a kid you picture yourself with a tall, handsome husband, and you imagine him cuddling your baby? Ben is like that, like, on crack.” -Jennifer Garner.
